Job Title: Assistant Security Manager Company: Location: Detroit, MI Description: Position Summary Under the direction of the Security Manager, is responsible for assisting in the overall administration and supervision of the day-to-day security services at the Main Library. Reporting Relationships This position reports to the Security Manager. Essential Functions ? Monitor DPL facilities (using CCTV and other monitoring devices) to ensure security of staff and customers ? Identify and recommend procedures and methods to prevent property loss and/or damage ? Maintain identification badges database ? Issue identification badges ? Assist in supervision of security officers staff ? Assist in scheduling of security staff ? Assist in creating an environment for security staff to deliver superior customer service ? Assist in building and encouraging a team oriented environment ? Assist in training security staff with the use of equipment, new technologies and work procedures ? Assist in work performance evaluations, recommendations, and performance coaching ? Participate in recruitment, selection and interviews of potential security staff ? Assist in collecting and maintaining data necessary for grant applications, annual reports, surveys and budget requisitions ? Assist in evaluating the library?s security function through goal development, plan execution, policy and procedure guidelines, and ongoing recommendation modifications to ensure a seamless flow in security administration ? Maintain an awareness that foster relationships with individuals, groups and organizations in the community as they relate to the security of the library as a whole ? Serves on DPL committees, participate in professional organizations, and maintain awareness of current trends ? Represent DPL at professional, governmental, and community meetings ? Attend meetings of DPL?s Security Task Force and provides information as requested ? Assist in providing a monthly report of overall security operations to the Chief Administrative Officer ? Assist in assuring that work areas, building and grounds are properly and safely maintained ? Perform duties of Security Officer when necessary ? Other related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills & Abilities ? Commitment and ability to work with and serve a staff and community with diverse cultural, educational and experiential backgrounds ? Ability to work with internal and external customers in a professional, friendly and cooperative manner ? Flexibility and willingness to embrace change ? Ability to develop, coordinate, and implement programs ? Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills ? Demonstrated ability in the use of technology-driven security applications, including CCTV and other monitoring devices ? Proficient at Microsoft Office applications ? Ability to learn to develop and administer budgets Qualifications ? Security management certification and/or other recognized credentials ? Minimum five (5) years of security experience in a large, multiple-sited organization ? Good oral and written communication skills ? Possess a State of Michigan driver license ? Excellent driving record Physical Requirements ? Ability to perform the physical activities inherent in security patrol duties¬¬ such as: walking, running, standing, rapidly ascending and descending stairs in a multi floor building ? Ability to lift a 50 lb fire extinguisher or full grown adult in emergency situations ? Sufficient vision (with correction) to read, view monitoring devices and to observe more distant objects ? Dexterity in arms, hands and fingers ? Sufficient stamina to work outside in bad weather conditions when required
