Investigators in the Whistleblower Program are responsible for investigating and resolving complaints filed by employees who claim they were discharged and/or discriminated against in retaliation for whistleblowing activities related to workplace safety and health related concerns. Investigators also respond to discrimination complaints based on safety or health concerns from the following industries: commercial aviation, nuclear, environmental, and commercial motor vehicle; as well as complaints of reprisal for reporting corporate and securities fraud. At the GS-11 level, incumbent conducts investigations of complaints filed under a broad range of employee protection statutes and their enabling regulations and develops the appropriate course of action to be followed or recommended in such cases. Writes final investigation reports and decisional letters and memoranda relating to cases investigated. Conducts witness interviews and negotiates with respondents, attorneys, and other representatives to obtain settlement agreements to resolve complaints. Provides assistance to Regional Solicitor in developing evidence and locating witnesses for meritorious cases being litigated under select statutes. May serve as witness in cases being tried in District Court. Provides information, advice and assistance to representatives of labor and management, attorneys, employees, and the public on discrimination matters.
