Some but not all major duties of the position include: Planning, directing and independently conducting complex and highly sensitive investigations regarding laws, rules, regulations, and treaties administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Leading and coordinating investigations; initiating evidence searches involving numerous databases, record searches, interviews, and physical and electronic surveillance. He/she devises methods, techniques, and approaches that may be used in similar investigations. Assignments focus on law enforcement activities such as organizing and leading teams comprised of a variety of experts, multi-agency and multi-function teams to accomplish high-risk, high-impact investigations. The individual plans and executes search, seizure and arrest warrants, performs intelligence and risk analysis, creates detailed warrant and raid plans, and multi-agency coordination with State, Federal, and international law enforcement officers. In addition to investigative assignments, the individual also builds partnerships with other law enforcement authorities, the media, NGO's, and private industry to obtain, secure and exchange information and testimony. The individual is expected to exercise judgment and discretion in making recommendations or decisions; conduct specialized studies and analysis to identify systemic issues; and create and maintain strong work relationships with his/her high level enforcement counterparts. Physical Demands and Work Environment:The work involves frequent and recurring surveillance in which there is a considerable amount of walking, bending, stooping, and climbing. The work also requires frequent lifting of moderately heavy objects. Work is accomplished in both office and outdoor settings. There is regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks and discomfort such as adverse weather conditions and duty or noisy environments. Surveillance work may include use of aircraft, boats, and motorized vehicles.
