We are currently looking for a Dispatcher to deploy to the McMurdo or South Pole Antarctic research station on a contract basis beginning approximately October 2010. There are three contract lengths: Summer - (Approximately) October through February, Winter - (Approximately) February through October, or Year-Long - (Approximately) October through October. We are looking for Primary and Alternate employees to fill all contract positions. The Primary is first in line for the position. The Alternate is next in line to deploy should the Primary be unable to meet deployment requirements. Responsibilities: The Dispatcher is r esponsible for the operation of various communications equipment (including but not limited to both 9-1-1 and administrative phone lines, VHF radios, Zetron radio console and King Fisher fire alarm system) at McMurdo Station. Serves as the primary point-of-contact (POC) for emergency communication requirements for McMurdo Station. Answers 9-1-1 and other phone lines taking both emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Monitors King Fisher fire alarm monitoring system. Dispatches appropriate personnel (Fire Department and/or Fire Technicians) when appropriate. Also includes some systems that are monitored via phone connections as opposed to the King Fisher system. Answers and routes off-continent phone calls for work related and emergency contact purposes. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and two years experience in customer service, radio operations, communications technology or related field required. Incident Command System (ICS) 100 and 200 certifications required for offer consideration (training offered through FEMA). Basic computer skills required, including Word, Excel and e-mail applications. Desired Qualifications: Previous Emergency Service (9-1-1) dispatch experience preferred.
