Incumbent is responsible for protective services in guarding government buildings, property, and safeguarding occupants, patients, and visitors in and around the clinic and the federal housing area.  Control personnel access by monitoring the identification of individuals entering controlled areas; refer persons who lack proper credentials to a control point to arrange access; issue verbal admonishments for violation of rules and regulations.  Patrol prescribed areas on an installation (by vehicle or foot) to check alarms, locks, fences, gates, and other barriers to assure they are closed and locked or open and unlocked, depending upon the time of the day and the conditions that apply.  Patrol installation perimeters to detect faulty fences and detection equipment, trespassing violations, and attempted thefts of federal or personal property.  Patrol the clinic, out buildings, and surrounding grounds to prevent theft or damage to federal property, equipment, tools, supplies, and other real or personal property.  Pursue and detain persons fleeing a disturbance/incident or attempting to resist detainment; subdue individual causing disturbances, such as in family disputes at the worksite or at government quarters; identify and detain violators based upon eyewitness accounts. Provide directions and information during the coordination of emergency responses between security, fire, and other emergency units; receive and act on calls concerning reports of violations or complaints.  Perform emergency traffic duties, such as enforcing speed limits, directing traffic and controlling the movement of vehicles and pedestrians on the government premises.  Observe and report traffic safety hazards, report parking violations and enforce pedestrian right-of-way rules.  Accompany police officers responding to complaints or reports of alleged disturbances and/or potential crimes.  Direct vehicular/pedestrian traffic control during disaster events and/or during drills.  Prepare various legible written reports, i.e., encounters with individuals such as complaints; witnesses; disruptive employees, patients, visitors; unsafe conditions, storage or location of materials (including personal property) that are vulnerable to theft or damage, safety responsibilities such as reporting incidents on the Web-base (Webcident) and other safety responsibilities that may be assigned by the supervisor.  As a condition of employment, the incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a government owned or leased motor vehicle in the performance of regular and recurring duties of the position.  Perform other duties as assigned.  Incumbent is subject to work evenings, weekends, rotating shifts and holidays.  In the event of an emergency situation (e.g., inclement weather, disaster coverage, etc.) employee may be required to report for duty outside of scheduled shift.  This position is covered under the Indian Child Protection Act and is hereby designated an authorized child care position subject to Public Laws 101-630 and 101-647.
