Position Summary: Monitors the safety profile of the registered/marketed products in collaboration with Global Pharmacovigilance and Epidemiology (GPE). Oversees the local clinical assessment and approval for all individual adverse reactions, product technical complaints and/or serious individual adverse events collected from appropriate solicited sources (Phase IV clinical studies, compassionate use, intensive monitoring) leading to adverse event reports. Facilitates safety data analysis and management by optimizing the quality documentation and assessment of individual reports from certain clinical studies and all post marketing adverse events involving sanofi-aventis products. Oversees data management into the Pharmacovigilance database. Ensures compliance with sanofi-aventis SOPs related to the collection, evaluation, analysis and reporting of adverse experience reports. Detects and evaluates potential safety signals and develops the safety management plan, in collaboration with the Senior Director Medical Safety and GPE. This position reports to the Senior Director, Medical Safety. Role Responsibilities: Analyzes all documentation and follows-up reports of adverse events temporally associated with the use of sanofi-aventis marketed products. Reviews, assesses and approves reports of adverse events associated with medicines for which an NDA has been filed and/or being used in certain clinical trials. Reviews case documentation and/or abstracts of case records to provide medically sound alternative explanations or differential diagnosis for the sequence of events. Reviews case reports (CIOMS, 3500As or E2B files) approved and distributed by Global Pharmacovigilance and Epidemiology (GPE) to ensure appropriate selection of 15-day Alerts for submission to the FDA. Interacts with FDA safety evaluators when they have questions concerning adverse event documentation regarding sanofi-aventis products. As necessary, provides oversight, training and coaching for members of the Case Management Team or Senior Manager, Medical Safety, involved in the collection, processing, assessment and storage of adverse event reports. Provides Pharmacovigilance input to specific product development. Ensures early participation in clinical trial development in order to foster early product knowledge. Provides recommendation related to signal detection or labeling changes. Maintains safety knowledge on drugs through literature and internal publications monitoring and review. Prepares safety analysis and other aggregate reports for submission to FDA and ensure adequate review from management and Corporate Pharmacovigilance. Provides the functions related to Affiliate Safety Officer as defined by Corporate Documents or expectations. Prepares US Periodic Reports for assigned products for regulatory submission to FDA.
