The Position Forensic Specialists perform a combination of security and client care duties in a secure mental health facility for treatment/evaluation of the mentally and/or medically ill offender and/or offenders whose competency requires evaluation. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. The Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) Forensic Services is currently recruiting for a Forensic Specialist 4 at Stein Forensic Hospital. This is a secure forensic hospital that houses court-committed clients for competency restoration and provides inpatient and outpatient services. All persons committed and ordered by the courts are to remain in Forensic custody in a secure facility. The Forensic Specialist 4 performs a variety of supervisorial for daily forensic operations. This position supervises and manages all security and safety functions to include but not limited to unit operations, client safety, transportation (internal and external), incident response, accident investigations, visiting, and attorney meetings. In addition, applicants must have attained and maintained valid certification as required by statute and regulation; OR one year of experience as a Forensic Specialist III in Nevada State service and valid certification as required by statute and regulation; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above to include valid certification as required by statute and regulation. Special Notes Applicants must meet minimum standards for appointment as a peace officer as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code. Some positions require incumbents to obtain and maintain certification as a mental health technician per NRS 433.279 as a condition of continuing employment.
