Job Details:

Summary: This position will provide safety leadership and strategic direction by leading the plant's continuous improvement efforts. As an integral member of the Plant Management Team, this role will support and advise site management regarding the Safety Management System.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulate a proactive local safety strategy to drive the plant towards sustainable, healthy, and safe operations.
  • Develop a vision for safety, enhancing established programs and implementing new programs within a team environment.
  • Eliminate, prevent, or reduce the occurrence of safety, health, and medical issues.
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of behaviors, attitudes, and a safety culture that supports Tyson Foods' goals.
  • Act as a change agent to accelerate best practice sharing within the facility.
  • Direct the safety programs for the site and recommend new programs to minimize company losses due to accidents.
  • Measure the effectiveness of safety programs and lead compliance with OSHA regulations and Tyson Foods' Ergonomic program.
  • Inspect machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure OSHA compliance.
  • Maintain OSHA files and support documents.
  • Accompany OSHA inspectors on plant inspections and regularly review plant operations for compliance with permits, operations, and equipment.
  • Analyze accident statistics to establish necessary precautions and changes for plant safety.
  • Communicate safety policy and procedure changes to management personnel.
  • Ensure all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices are reviewed annually or as needed and rolled out timely.
  • Conduct safety inspections and procedural audits in the field, taking immediate corrective action if required.
  • Review all safety areas, determine causes, identify corrective actions, and conduct training in areas such as ergonomics, emergency response, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment.
  • Investigate all safety-related incidents, review incident reports, and complete necessary reports for insurance carriers, risk management systems, and the corporate safety office.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health Science, Health Safety, or related safety education preferred. Equivalent combination of education and safety field experience will be considered.
  • Experience: 3+ years of progressive experience in environment, safety, and sustainability management required. Strong knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA, hazard communications, accident investigation, and safety training methods.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices regarding safety and environmental approaches, including PSM and RMP safety practices.
  • Computer Skills: Standard computer skills. Experience with Microsoft Suites is needed (Ex: Excel, Word, Power point).
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Special Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write policies and procedures for site-specific safety programs.
