POSITION SUMMARY:
We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as an Armed Night Security Guard within Edgewater Health’s Safety & Security Department. Under the direction of the Security Lead and Leadership Team this position supports our Security Team by providing security adequate protection for the safety of personnel, clients, agency, and the property, and equipment of the agency. The Security Guard performs listed duties for assigned areas daily. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication, excellent observational skills, and previous surveillance experience, preferably in a law enforcement environment. This person should have the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations while exhibiting patience and a superb attention to detail.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Security Guard responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Intervenes in life-threatening and/or client acting-out episodes as appropriate, as determined by both clinical philosophy and training.
- Prepare, report, and record detailed incident reports in a clear and precise manner.
- Establishes and maintains contact with Law Enforcement Agencies and/or other security as available in the area to which assigned.
- Participates in Center sponsored and conducted training programs regarding handling life threatening situations.
- May answer inquiries from and direct Center clients and visitors.
- Reviews with Clinic Managers and maintains surveillance of potentially explosive clients.
- Picks up Emergency Services calls as directed and relays to staff when Operator or Emergency Service worker is not available.
- Police building and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
- Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing or electrical systems.
- May take E.D. Papers, as directed, to Judge or pick up medication from pharmacy or hospital. Also, may take mail to post office as required.
- Daily checks on satellite facilities.
- Security will make bank run of daily deposit
- Sound fire alarm or alert fire or police department in case of fire or break in.
- Notify supervisor or administrator in charge if emergency arises on evening or night shift.
- Monitor the alarm system.
- Screen each person entering the center/units.
- Enforce parking regulations/restrictions.
- Make security checks on all outside doors and perimeters.
- Be totally responsible for area of assignment.
REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
- Ability to utilize a fire extinguisher properly.
- Ability to be able to read and understand written instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education High school diploma or ESE Equivalency
- One (1) to Three (3) years of experience working with mentally challenged or substance abuse patients preferred.
- Other-Possess a valid drivers license.
- A good driving records.
- Appropriate automobile insurance and valid license plates.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A post offer physical is required.
- A pre-employment background check is required.
- Ability to bend, lift thirty-five (35) pounds, push, pull and move intermittently during work hours.
- Ability to remain alert and attentive for hours at a time.
- Ability to walk, climb stairs, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, walk, stop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and move intermittently during work hours.
- Must have a field of vision to view monitors and detect unauthorized persons.
