Position Overview

A Safety Plus Traveling Safety Manager is a part of a team that is responsible for driving long-term client success by providing leadership and expertise to enhance client safety performance year-over-year. This role centers on understanding how to conduct and document safety site inspections across various industries throughout varying geographic locations. The Traveling Safety Manager will communicate and coordinate site inspections with the client ensuring that proper time is given for planning the visit. This position will also need to be familiar with the use of software tools meant for conducting and recording inspections.

In addition, this role requires understanding each client's unique needs, pressures, and values to develop and advance safety initiatives at a pace that resonates with their organizational goals. Leveraging Safety Plus's established operational guidelines, the Traveling Safety Manager will work to progressively improve client safety cultures and staying within agreed service boundaries all while fostering continuous safety enhancements.

Essential Functions

  • On-Site Safety Inspections

  • Travel to client locations across an assigned geographic region to conduct routine, on-site safety inspections.

  • Ability to develop travel plans that align with customers' contractual requirements and maximize efficiencies ensuring that the most site visits as possible are completed within a specific trip.

  • Client Enablement & Safety Leadership

  • Engage with clients to understand their specific needs, operational pressures, and values, tailoring safety strategies to meet them where they are while guiding improvement at a valued pace.

  • Operational Excellence & Compliance Management

  • Conduct on-site evaluations to identify hazards and provide best practice recommendations where appropriate.

  • Consolidate and summarize inspection findings into customer accounts within Safety Plus software.

  • Lead training and workshops while on site to add overall service value and to empower client staff and safety teams by transferring knowledge and fostering best practices for sustained safety advancements.

  • Continuous Improvement & Program Advancement

  • Collaborate with clients to create structured paths toward elevated safety standards that supports a culture of accountability and progressive improvement.

  • Strategic Planning & Program Management

  • Coordinate with clients for all on-site visits to ensure they have proper awareness of upcoming inspections and requirements.

  • Act as a liaison between Safety Plus and clients ensuring consistent communication and mutual alignment on safety goals.

  • Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with other Safety Managers to understand each customer's safety program, key personnel, and unique situations.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations with experience applying these in diverse client settings. Knowledge of USDOT and MSHA requirements, or the ability to quickly learn and apply them as needed.
  • Ability to listen actively, interpret client needs, and develop actionable safety strategies that meet client values and objectives.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple clients and projects concurrently.
  • Proficient with safety management software, MS Office Suite, and related tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to distill complex safety concepts into clear guidance.
  • Even-tempered, resilient under pressure, and able to work effectively with individuals at all levels to foster positive and collaborative relationships.
  • Experience with intercontinental air travel and travel expense reporting

Experience

  • 3+ years of experience managing a safety department, or similar role, with demonstrated success in fostering continuous safety improvement and compliance.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree

Working Conditions

  • Regular, non-local travel to client sites within assigned geographic region required (3-4 days per week)
  • Combination of on-site and office with some flexibility in scheduling
