~ THE SELECTION PROCESS ~ **Step 1: Written Exam**
You must pass ONE of these options:
-CritiCall Dispatcher Exam - Schedule free with our Police Department Contact: Kathryn Cox at ... or ...
-Scores obtained from the National Testing Network (ECOMM Exam) within the past year (from date of posting) will be accepted in lieu of CritiCall.
**Step 2: Typing Test
Minimum 35 words per minute required.
We accept certificates from: Government agencies Educational institutions Temp agencies Business schools
Certificate must be dated within the last 12 months.
Contact HR if you need alternatives.
**Step 3: Oral Panel Interview
**Step 4: Background Investigation & Polygraph
**Step 5: Psychological & Medical Evaluations
Candidates successfully completing all components of the selection process will be placed on an employment eligibility list from which hires may be made. The eligible list is valid for six months.

Training and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that provides the below listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way of qualifying would be:
- Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of employment which has included regular contact with the public.
- Typing speed 35 wpm
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification is desirable and must be obtained within one year.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation
- Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts on a rotation basis
- Must be willing to be called back or held over to maintain minimum staffing levels
- Must obtain Post Basic Dispatcher and Department of Justice CLETS/CJIS operator certifications prior to completion of probation as a Public Safety Dispatcher I
- Upon conditional offer of employment, selected candidate(s) will be required to pass a physical and psychological evaluation.

- An adult felony conviction in California, or with a conviction for an offense in another state which would be classified as a felony in California
- Currently on Probation or Parole
- Adult felony and/or misdemeanor conviction(s) may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and how recent
- Conviction of/or sustained petitions for any sex crime
- Recent use and/or possession of illegal drugs, weapons or explosive devices without legal authorization
- History of committing domestic violence or animal cruelty
- Dishonesty or failure to reveal pertinent information
