This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Security Guards functions as the first layer of defense to deter, detect, delay, assess, respond, and document unauthorized access to military installations restricted to the general public while preserving the life, health and safety of the military installations. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-04
General and/or Specialized Experience : Six months of general experience which includes following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with co-workers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information; AND six months of specialized experience which includes protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-03. (Note: Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience on a month-for-month basis.)

Education: Two years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.

GS-05
Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes controlling access to a facility; search various types of vehicles; verify identification; perform traffic control duties; operate radios to pass and receive information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-04.

GS-06
Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience which includes 1) enforcing security regulations to protect facilities and personnel; 2) preventing security violations, and 3) experience such as work with Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-05.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job at the GS-05 and GS-06 grade levels , you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted at the GS-05 and GS-06 grade levels. FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
