Position Profile Position: Educational Support Professional : Security Officer I (Campus) Department/School: Secuirty Reports To: Director of Security FTE: 1.0 Days/Year: 192 Salary Grade: A19 Salary Schedule: This position is based on the 2025-2026 ESP Salary Schedule, School Based Positions (Group B ) FLSA Status: Non- Exempt Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Position Summary The Campus Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors across assigned district campuses. This position patrols school property, monitors campus activity, enforces school and district policies, responds to incidents and emergencies, and supports student safety and positive school climate. The position works under established procedures and may be reassigned to other district sites based on operational needs. Essential Job Functions Campus Monitoring & Patrol Patrol school buildings, grounds, parking lots, athletic areas, and surrounding property. Monitor entrances, exits, hallways, and common areas to promote safe movement of students and visitors. Identify and address unauthorized access, suspicious activity, vandalism, theft, or safety hazards. Ensure students possess required hall or parking passes. Secure doors, gates, and restricted access areas. Access Control & Visitor Management Verify identification of visitors and determine purpose of visit. Ensure visitors follow district sign-in and check-in procedures. Escort unauthorized persons from campus when necessary. Provide directions and customer service assistance to visitors. Safety & Incident Response Respond to medical incidents, disturbances, fights, alarms, accidents, and other emergencies. De-escalate conflicts and restore order using approved intervention methods. Provide first aid within training guidelines and report injuries. Assist with lockdowns, evacuations, drills, and emergency operations. Prepare accurate incident, discipline, and safety reports. Student & Staff Support Build positive working relationships with students, staff, families, and community members. Assist administrators with locating students, escorts, and behavior support. Support arrival, dismissal, lunch periods, after-school activities, and athletic events. Reinforce Student Conduct and Discipline Code and campus expectations. Compliance & Collaboration Participate in required meetings, drills, and professional development. Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information. Work collaboratively with administrators, district staff, and law enforcement as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of school safety practices, campus security procedures, and emergency response protocols. Skill in observation, conflict de-escalation, and report writing. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups. Ability to remain calm and decisive during emergencies. Ability to patrol large campuses and respond quickly to incidents. Ability to use security communication equipment and technology. Qualifications REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent required. REQUIRED: Must complete district-required first aid, CPI, and safety training. REQUIRED: Must pass required background checks and pre-employment screenings. PREFERRED: Prior experience in security, school safety, military, or law enforcement Working Conditions & Physical Demands Work is performed in and around District school buildings and grounds. The role includes regular interaction with students, staff, and visitors and may involve responding to safety concerns, behavioral incidents, and emergency situations. Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions, may occur. This position is primarily active and requires frequent walking and standing throughout the workday, with occasional sitting. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently, and infrequently exert force exceeding 100 pounds in emergency or safety situations. Movements may include bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching overhead and at ground level, and maintaining balance. The role requires the ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate objects and perform fine motor tasks. Employees must be able to receive, process, and communicate information effectively through verbal, visual, or auditory means, with or without reasonable accommodation. The position requires maintaining awareness and the ability to respond appropriately in dynamic situations. Employees in this category will also receive the following for the 2025-2026 school year: Non-Recurring Pay: 7% of base salary in Non-Recurring Pay (distributed as 3.5% on November paycheck and 3.5 % on May paycheck). Staffing Stability Incentive (Adams Elementary, Galileo Middle School and Mitchell High School): ESP employees will receive the equivalent of one salary step divided over 12 pay periods. Base Salary Setting: Employment, assignment and salary placement, is in accordance with job description requirements. A work history is required to demonstrate job title, job duties and time worked in the position. Grade placement for ESP positions is determined by the Salary Schedule by Job Title resource . Salary Setting (New Hires): Any newly-employed Education Support Professional will be placed on the twenty-five (25) step system. Each step represents two years of experience, based upon equivalent experience. The maximum number of years of experience granted is 19-20 years, which is equivalent to placement on step ten (10). Steps are determined by experience listed on the application and resume. Salary Setting (Rehires): Returning employees who have previously resigned or separated from the District will be rehired at the same step they were on at the time of resignation/separation plus any new experience gained in the same job, provided step increases were approved by the Board during the years in question . Employees with experience in the District who have left the District and then returned to the same position shall be hired at the same pay grade (refers to the ESP placement on salary schedule by job title) and step at time of resignation. Additional relevant experience gained after resignation may be evaluated from the employee's application and updated resume.
