Main Purpose of JobA CorrectionalSecurity Chief is the highest of three levels of managerial work involving thecustody, security and control of adult inmates confined in a correctionalfacility. Correctional Security Chief has complete responsibility for securityat institutions with an authorized correctional staff so large as to requirethree Correctional Officer Majors to effectively manage that staff. Employeesin this classification manage the work of correctional officers on three shiftsthrough the supervision of Correctional Officer Majors.
POSITION DUTIESSupervise uniformedcorrectional staff as measured by a review of completed annual efficiencyratings, institutional training records and other documents verifying compliancewith human resource requirements.
Maintain the custodyof inmates and the security of the institution as measured by a review ofcompliance audit reports, serious incident reports and other documentsreflecting the overall soundness of institutional security.
Make recommendationsconcerning security enhancements, expenditures as measured by a review of thebudget and modifications made to meet immediate and long term security needs.
Ensure thatinvestigations are completed appropriately and in a timely manner.
Review all use offorce incidents and make recommendations.
Create and ensure thatemergency plans are clear, concise and current.
Review and makerecommendations concerning institutional post orders, policies and procedures.
Manage and makerecommendations to the Warden concerning staffing and overtime.
Plan and schedule postassignments as measured by a review of post orders, staffing analysis reports,overtime reports and other documents depicting institutional staffingactivities.
Carry out the dutiesof the Warden/Assistant Warden in his/her absence as measured by a review ofthe institution's continuity in functioning during the period of absence.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSApplicants must meet all minimum qualifications to beconsidered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please readall requirements before applying.
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. corticated acceptable to theMaryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional TrainingCommission Regulation.
Experience: Four years of experience supervising the work ofCorrectional Officer Supervisors in the custody and security of adult inmates.
Notes:
1. Additional education at anaccredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of sixty credithours for one year of the required experience provided that a minimum of 15credit hours are in the field of criminal justice or related social sciences.
2. Employees in thisclassification are subject to be on call 24 hours a day and must have atelephone at their place of residence.
3. Employees appointed to thisposition are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code ofMaryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for illegal Use of Drugs.
4. Employees who have notalready done so must meet the selection standards required and successfulcomplete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional TrainingCommission.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSThe ideal candidate must be fluent in spoken and writtenEnglish. The ideal candidate must effectively and respectfully communicate withdiverse populations, providing services to individuals with different beliefs,behaviors, and interpersonal styles in confinement or community settings.Professional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or any otherlanguage is a plus.
