The Security Dispatcher serves as the central communication hub for the campus security department, coordinating between shift officers, supervisors, and the campus community on security-related matters. The Dispatcher will manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, including monitoring radio communications, handling incoming calls across multiple lines, overseeing alarm system displays, and promptly relaying critical information to the appropriate personnel. Additionally, the Dispatcher is responsible for maintaining accurate documentation throughout the shift, including logging security events, incidents, and activities in the department's activity log. Strong multitasking skills, attention to detail, and a focus on clear, timely communication are essential to support the department's operations and ensure a safe campus environment. Excellent customer service and professionalism are required to interact effectively with both staff and the public. Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities): Communication and Coordination: Acts as the central point of contact for security staff and the campus community, managing radio communications, handling incoming calls, and relaying critical information to the appropriate personnel. - 25% Monitoring and Response: Oversees alarm systems and security equipment, dispatches officers to incidents, and provides real-time updates to ensure a swift and coordinated response to security situations. - 20% Documentation and Record-keeping: Maintains accurate and up-to-date activity logs, documenting security events and incidents for reporting, legal compliance, and future reference. - 20% Customer Service and Public Interaction: Provides professional and courteous assistance to staff, students, and visitors, addressing inquiries and directing them to appropriate resources or locations. - 20% Shift Support and Office Operations: Supports the daily operations of the security department, ensuring proper functioning of equipment and assisting with operational needs as required. - 15% Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Proficiency with Microsoft office software. Strong ability with typing. Strong ability with general computer use. Ability to multitask and communicate in a fast-paced environment. Ability to observe and monitor multiple screens with various information. Ability to work and manage a multi-line office phone. Ability to speak clearly through telephones and radios. Ability to record accurate and detailed logs. Ability to write legibly. Ability to work as a team towards a common goal. Ability to remain alert and attentive in bouts of inactivity. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Preferred: Communication knowledge with handheld radios is beneficial. Education and Experience Required: High School Diploma or GED: Minimum requirement for entry into the position. Education and Experience Preferred: Associate's degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field is a plus, but not mandatory.
