Safety Officer
Essential Job Functions
Performs security checks of residential facilities and identifies potential safety hazards
Enforces Housing policies
Supports Residential Life staff during the assigned shift when requested or special needs arise
Patrols surrounding parking areas to help ensure the safety of students, staff and guests going to and from their vehicles
Secures residents' doors and provides lock-out assistance
Conducts preliminary investigations in collaboration with the Alcorn State Campus Police
Requests proper identification on everyone entering Residence Hall facilities
Makes reports to Residential Life management staff on security violations
Reports all suspicious activity to the Residential Life management staff
Provides written reports when required
Other related duties, as assigned
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or its equivalent is required. Some college credits preferred
- One (1) year related experience preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to campus and residence hall safety
- Knowledge of security operations, procedures, and best practices
- Good communication skills, verbal, written, and interpersonal
- Good organizational and critical thinking skills
- Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions under pressure
- Ability to follow complex instructions
- Ability to understand and be sensitive to the diverse backgrounds of students
