Work Experience Description:
Ideal for students who have begun gaining relevant experience and are building their skills through internships, part-time jobs, or significant projects. Typically aimed at sophomores or juniors who have completed a combination of introductory and advanced coursework.
Job Summary
Guard, patrol, or monitor premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules; respond to first aid emergencies; support occupational safety or risk mitigation initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
- Secure all facilities and ensure that facilities are properly secured.
- Monitor all emergency calls and fire alarms and ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Report to supervisor all calls such as hazard reports, medical assistance, and other security problems are investigated immediately by the supervisor.
- Issue citations to vehicles, motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, carts, skateboards and roller skates that violate university policies and regulations.
- Report all crimes to the supervisor who in turn will inform the police and the Director of Campus Safety and Security for appropriate action.
- Monitor behavior in various settings during and between assigned periods and checks facilities (e.g. restrooms, villages, pacific theater, PCC grounds, parking lot, etc.) consistently to ensure compliance with established guidelines, and maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Refers incidents, unusual activities or behavior to appropriate site personnel to ensure follow-up by administrative, site security and student safety guidelines.
- Surveys behavior, with/without camera surveillance on a computer, and visually scans various areas to ensure guests and employees follow established regulations and maintain a safe and positive environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Positive, can-do attitude
- Must have general computer skills
- Must be CPR/Basic First Aid certified within 60 days of hired date
- Must be eligible to obtain a Security Guard License issued by the State of Hawaii.

Commitment Date: The student employee must agree to a minimum period of 1-year employment. The candidate must complete the guard training before starting employment.
