Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager for a direct hire opportunity in Lithonia, GA, supporting heavy civil construction projects across residential, commercial, municipal, and infrastructure environments. This role is ideal for a hands-on safety leader who enjoys being in the field, partnering with operations teams, and building a proactive safety culture across active construction sites.

The Safety Manager will oversee safety programs related to grading, excavation, underground utilities, water management systems, trenching, pipe installation, and heavy equipment operations. Key Responsibilities

- Conduct routine job site inspections, safety audits, and field assessments to ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental, and company safety standards.
- Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, stretch-and-flex programs, new hire orientations, and ongoing employee safety training.
- Monitor field operations involving excavation, trenching, grading, pipe installation, utility construction, and heavy equipment use.
- Identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and partner with field leadership to reduce risk and prevent incidents.
- Investigate accidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents, including report preparation and corrective action follow-up.
- Maintain safety documentation, training records, inspection reports, compliance logs, and safety performance reporting.

- Salary range: $100,000 to $115,000 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Oversee safety programs for heavy civil construction, excavation, grading, underground utilities, and heavy equipment operations.
- Conduct field inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, and compliance audits across multiple project sites.
- Lead safety training, toolbox talks, orientations, and field-level safety communication.
- Partner with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and subcontractors to strengthen safety performance.

- Minimum 3 to 5 years of safety management experience in heavy civil construction, utility installation, excavation, grading, or a related construction environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards, including 29 CFR 1926.
- Understanding of DOT regulations and motor carrier safety requirements.
- Experience supporting safety programs on active construction sites with heavy equipment, trenching, excavation, and utility work.
- Ability to prepare accurate safety reports, investigation summaries, corrective action plans, and compliance documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management documentation systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and training skills.
- Ability to work independently and travel between multiple project sites as needed.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
- Certified Safety Professional, CSP, or other recognized safety credential.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience supporting municipal infrastructure, water and sewer, stormwater, roadway, earthwork, or utility construction projects.
