Position Summary:

The Director of Security implements the overall security strategy, policies, and Gun Lake Casino Resort standards to ensure the physical safety of all Guests, Team Members, and Vendors and the security of the property and assets. The Director of Security implements staff training and establishes operational plans for crisis response, disaster recovery, evacuation, workplace violence, and other emergencies. This position manages and maintains access control systems, physical key control, alarms, and other physical security measures. Additionally, the Director of Security delivers education programs and communications on security policies and topics to ensure Team Members are adequately informed and equipped to manage potential security issues. Participate in tribal, local, state, or federal working or advisory groups to keep up-to-date with all security-related information, directives, and events. Leads and directs significant investigations and critical event responses in coordination with law enforcement and other officials or agencies. This role reviews incident reports, develops security process improvements, handles budgets, and allocates resources for security operations.

In this Role:

  • Responsible for practicing, supporting, and always promoting Gun Lake Casino Resort’s Four Diamond Standards.
  • Lead all Team Member Engagement activities for the Security Department.
  • Responsible for department management to ensure excellent Guest service, obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations, and maximize profits and property presentation according to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for reviewing and updating department Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensures all policies and procedures, laws, Tribal Gaming Commission regulations, and internal controls are enforced.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate, thorough, and confidential internal security and personnel investigations as directed.
  • Responsible for auditing and maintaining inventory of both controlled and non-controlled keys.
  • Responsible for managing access control systems for card reader access.
  • Establish a working relationship with tribal, local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and emergency services.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement regarding illegal activities occurring on the property.
  • Direct emergency management during emergencies.
  • Provide immediate response and direct internal investigations. Stays current with best practices in effective security operations and participates in continuing education opportunities to maintain knowledge of and compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing organizational goals, business strategies, policies, and operational plans/budgets.
  • Responsible for all employment-related actions, including hiring, termination, and evaluation of Team Members within the department.
  • Responsible for always practicing, supporting, and promoting Gun Lake Casino Resort’s “Unsurpassed Service Standards.”
  • Practice teamwork, support fellow Team Members, and create an energized, positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Conducts regular audits and inspections to assess, identify and mitigate any security vulnerabilities or gaps.
  • Interact with Guests in a friendly and courteous manner and handle all Guest opportunities.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Must be 21+ years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Five years of law enforcement or equivalent experience as a Security Manager and/or Director. Casino experience required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to relate well with all levels of the organization and guests; strong listening and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven experience and in-depth comprehensive knowledge in security, investigation, loss prevention, safety awareness, and risk management.
  • Must have advanced computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven experience with maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated prior success with leading staff in the development of departmental goals.
  • Ability to evaluate courses of action and reach sound, non-judgmental, management decisions and resolutions.
  • Must know the SDS booklet location(s) for your area.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently.
  • Proven experience with maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to evaluate courses of action and reach sound, non-judgmental management decisions, and resolutions.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain an Alcohol Awareness Card (TIPS). If not already certified, training will be provided.
  • Ability to obtain a gaming license with the Gun Lake Tribal Gaming Commission.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires normal, corrective vision range, the ability to see color, and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Strength to subdue a person(s). Must be able to run after suspects. Must be able to drag an unconscious person during an evacuation.
  • Requires the stamina to climb stairs, sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • Requires an acute sense of smell and sound and the ability to talk on and hear through a two-way radio and telephone.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs with or without assistance.
  • Further physical requirements include, but are not limited to, standing, kneeling, crouching, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, grasping, and reaching.

Work Conditions:

Work is typically in an area, which may be unusually hot, cold, noisy, and may contain second-hand smoke. Work may be performed in small areas with a 3 ft. wide access. Tasks performed from a sitting or non-sitting position. Performance of job duties will require standing, walking, lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and grasping. These tasks include the maintenance and care of assigned areas. Work may entail trained chemical usage. Constant contact with fellow Team Members and Guests.
