NATURE OF WORK:
Under the general supervision of the Security and Safety Director, assists in the development and implementation of security, safety and return to work programs for the organization. Working within a variety of programs this employee assists the Director in bringing the highest level of security and security and safety possible to each work site, decreasing system exposure to theft or attack as well as injuries and workers compensation costs to the organization. An employee in this position assists in the implementation of system-adopted programs in a wide variety of areas related to the security and safety of the school system. Program responsibility includes, but is not limited to: the system's emergency action plan, other security and safety program evaluations and/or inspections, OSHA compliance programs and the return to work program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to analyze data and to draw conclusions from various data sources.
- Ability to use correct judgment in a variety of routine and non-routine situations.
- Ability to comprehend complex procedures.
- Ability to comprehend and correctly apply a wide variety of state and local laws, rules, and regulations.
- Considerable interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of standard office equipment and software applications.
- Effective written and oral communication skills with the ability to create reports and charts.
- Working knowledge and understanding of the NC Workers' Compensation Law.
- Working knowledge of the NC Building and Fire Codes.
- Technical working knowledge of CCTV security systems with the ability to resolve programming issues, replace, install security cameras.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, criminal justice, business, or related field with an emphasis in investigation and program administration preferred.
- A related AA degree in with (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in security or safety program planning and administration required.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month
SALARY: Pay Grade 64
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct security and safety inspections at all work sites, including playground inspections.
- Assist in the training of employees on measures necessary to enhance security and safety.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current security and safety issues facing the system.
- Ensure compliance with all Occupational Security and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
- Assist in the investigation of employee accidents and complaints related to occupational safety and health.
- Analyze accident reports and worker's compensation claims to identify any area requiring safety training.
- Work with workers compensation carrier to reduce costs to the system.
- Maintain working relationships with all emergency responders to enhance communication and planning in response to any security issue or crisis event.
- Other work as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A person in this position must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, 20-50 lbs. occasionally and have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders
- Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely.
- Ability to bend, stoop, carry, push, or pull.
- Ability to carry furniture such as tables and chairs, supplies and materials
- Must be able to visually and auditorily effectively communicate with staff.
- Must be able to drive to variety of school sites.
- Must be able to facilitate the evacuation of students and staff during emergency situations and/or drills.
